Compose your own song

Compose your own song

What would a song sound like if only you could have written it? It might begin with a phrase from a conversation, a memory, or a tune you hum on a walk. Your first song doesn't need a big production: a voice recording can be enough to capture something of your own. Choose a subject and collect a few words that fit. Hum a short melody and record it before you forget it. Turn that into a repeating section, then try writing a verse around it. If you play an instrument, add some accompaniment. If not, clap the rhythm or simply sing. Listen back and start by changing the part that feels awkward. Aim for a small, complete version that can be heard from beginning to end, even if you decide to keep it just for yourself.

Make this idea your own: what would you like to do, who might join you and what is a manageable first step? Save it to your list and develop your plan when the time feels right.
